Federal safety investigators report that on some of the
Ford and Mercury pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, sport
utility vehicles, and motor home chassis, the speed control
deactivation switch may, under certain conditions, leak internally
and then overheat, smoke, or burn.
Owners of the passenger cars included in the recall campaign
are being told to take their vehicles to their local Ford
dealer to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected
as a temporary measure because parts are not expected to
be available until October 2007.
