The GM recall was publicly announced by federal safety investigators upon learning that a fuel tank value could fracture and leak fuel. It didn’t take long to figure out that leaking fuel can cause a fire. Yeah, right. No kidding guys, no kidding.

The recall involves Rendezvous and Aztek vehicles built in May 2003, Venture and Montana vehicles built in June through August 2002 and all vehicles registered in Nevada, Arizona, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hawaii. GM says that variations in the manufacturing process or exposure to high temperatures may lead to fracture of the fuel tank inlet check valve (ICV) on some of the vehicles. A fracture may allow fuel vapors to pass through and allow droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank.

In Ohio, that kind of defect only gets one chance to be fixed. After that, it’s a lemon and you’re entitled to a free replacement car or your money back or money damages.
