General Motors Recalls 805,000
Pickup Trucks
Picture
this: you’re driving down the highway when suddenly
you hear a bang and you look in your rear view mirror and
see the cargo that was in your truck’s bed bouncing
down the roadway behind you. Sure you closed the tailgate,
but according to GM, the cables can break and you could lose
your cargo...you better just hope there’s no one behind
you if it falls out!
Do you (or did you) own any of these potential GM lemon

GM has admitted to federal safety officials that cables
used to support the tailgate can corrode, weaken and break.
The 2000 Silverado has had its share of recalls and this
one makes #9. Recalls have covered bedliners that can fly
out while driving down the road, power steering and brake
assist problems, loss of half the brakes, air bags that might
not work, parking brakes that may not hold, and “unwanted
antilock brake system activation” among other things
(that last one doesn’t even sound good).
The 1999 Sierra has seen its recall troubles too, many of
them the same as the Silverado.
