Turns out the speed control deactivation switch can overheat,
start smoking, and even burn up. Ford first became aware of
2003 model year’s overheating switch or burning switch
problem in October 2006.
Some 2002 model year Fords had already been recalled for the
same dangerous speed control switch. Apparently they thought
switch design changes had started earlier than they actually
had, resulting in some early production 2003 model year Lincoln
Blackwood vehicles being built with the old, dangerous design.
