Excessively high exhaust system temperatures may cause a
lack of power or rough operation, unusual noises from the
engine or exhaust, white smoke from the exhaust, and maybe
even a visible flame out of the tailpipe. Ford admits that
it is aware of one report of flame from the tailpipe on a
U.S. vehicle that apparently started a grass fire. Good thing
that didn’t happen in a gas station!
